Roller Derby starter kit
What do I need to Play Roller Derby
- Quad Roller skates : R3 or GT50 are the most commonly used for beginners about £140-£150
- Knee Pads : you will be learning to fall safely to your knees so it is worth investing in better quality knee pads, our basic derby knee pads start from £30 and can go up to £90
- Elbow Pads : you want them to be a good fit so your not having to pull them up all the time £25-50
- Wrist Guards : ideally you will not land on your wrists, you will learn to fall to you knees or what is known as a 4 point fall, wrist guards start from about £10 and go up to around £40 for the top spec ones
- Helmet : heads are important don't buy cheapo helmets, this is a full contact sport you will bump your head at some point get a decent helmet, spend at least £25, if you have a good dunt in your helmet replace it, its done its job
- Mouth Guard : most popular brand is Sisu, its slimmer than most other mouth guards and seems to work just fine!
if you plan to buy 2nd hand make sure you buy your helmet new, you don't know its history, you don't know if its safe
It's not a cheap sport to get started, most Clubs will have some loaner kit to get you going, then you can get your own a bit at a time as the pay checks come through,
Also we can work out a payment plan for you if you cant afford everything at once, we don't buy or sell 2nd hand gear
